Das Jahr neigt sich dem Ende und schon etliche spannende Releases liegen hinter uns. So ist es auch wieder an der Zeit ein Spiel des Jahres zu küren. Eine feste Instanz, die sich dieser Aufgabe annimmt, ist die Preisverleihung The Game Awards. Dabei wird jährlich nach dem Game of the Year gesucht. Dies ist eine von insgesamt 30 Kategorien der Game Awards.
Für dieses Jahr stehen die Nominierungen nun fest und die Spieler können ebenfalls am Voting teilnehmen. Für die Nominierung bestellt ein beratenes Gremium, welches aus Hardware- und Software-Unternehmen der Games-Branche besteht, ein Komitee aus Pressevertretern. Diese können dann ihre Stimme abgeben. Am Ende landen die Spiele mit den meisten Nennungen auf der Nominierungsliste.
